The passenger Bell 205A-1 was certified by the FAA in October 1968 as a medium lift helicopter powered by a Honeywell (Lycoming) T5313A turboshaft. It had a maximum takeoff weight of 4,310 kg (9,500 lb.) or 4,765 kg (10,500 lb.) with an external load. Based on the military Bell UH-1D/H “Huey”, the 205A-1 can accommodate a pilot and up to 14 passengers. Most of the Bell 205A1s in use today fly as utility helicopters, fighting wildfires or transporting external loads.
